If you’re like me, you’re using the start of the new year as a way to hit reset and start working towards your fitness goals. But where to begin?
Setting yourself up for success is going to be the best way to ensure that you stay consistent and follow through with your goals. For some, this might mean signing up for a gym membership or class pass to visit trendy boutique fitness studios. But if, like me, you’re on a budget and committing to a gym contract does not align with your money-saving goals.
Don’t worry, I’ve figured out how to get that boutique fitness studio at-home to help motivate you to slay your fitness goals while keeping your budget intact. I work out in a small area in my bedroom and garage but these tips will work wherever you designate as your exercise area.
Upgrading your at-home workout space might be the motivation you need to stick to your routine and reach your goals.
Here is what I do to transform my space into my own at-home fitness studio on a budget, using some of my fitness favorites and tech gadgets.
Keep in mind that boutique fitness studios are usually clean, calm, and quiet. Try to create that same ambiance by keeping your workout area free of clutter at home. I have a basket that I keep all of my workout equipment in for easy access before my workouts and easy cleanup afterward. Keeping your equipment in the same color family will also make everything look more elevated and high-end.
Gather Your Equipment
No at-home fitness studio is complete without some essential equipment. Since you’re recreating a boutique-style studio, you only need a few pieces to do your strength training, yoga, and pilates workouts. I would suggest a set of dumbbells in weights that match your goals and workouts. You can get amazing prices on dumbbells at sporting goods stores like Academy and Dick’s.
In addition to dumbbells, I also wear the Bala Bangles on my ankles and wrists to add light weights to my workouts without having to physically hold them in my hands.
Resistance bands are also a great way to intensify your movements and tone during pilates and strength training. They’re also so small and light making them perfect for working out while traveling.
A yoga mat is essential for at-home workouts like yoga, of course, pilates, ab works, stretching, and so much more. You can them at great prices at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. I’ve also linked some yoga mats under $20 below.
Lastly, I would suggest a foam roller to massage out any tightness before and after working out.
Keeping a shelf of glass water bottles ready to go in your fridge will take the at-home fitness boutique studio to the next level. To take it even a step further, you could store them in a mini-fridge in the area you’re working out in.
Have you ever noticed how boutique fitness classes always smell so good, compared to the normal gym? Upgrade your workout experience by lighting your favorite candle (check out “Silk Sheets” from my brand) in a soft scent, adding a diffuser, or spraying a few spritzes of your go-to room spray before each workout. I guarantee this will make you feel fancy AF in your own home workout studio.
Get Connected Using These Tech Tools
Music is a must-have for getting motivated before and during a workout. If you’re working out in a shared space and don’t want to distract others, good headphones are essential. I workout using my AirPods and I love the convenience of being wireless. If you’re working out in your garage or backyard, you may want to opt for a Bluetooth speaker. Either way, turn on your favorite playlist to help you get into your zone.
I love watching YouTube videos when I’m doing cardio and my Apple TV makes it so much easier to watch my favorite videos/how on a bigger screen and distract myself for an hour. It also helps me when I’m doing my Nike Training workouts because I can airplay from my phone to the Apple TV. Using a smart tv or Apple TV is the finishing touch to give you a fitness studio experience and feel without the insane membership fees.
