Curating My Beauty Collection

Beauty No-Buy+ I’m Doing a Beauty No-Buy!

As someone who loves the look of minimal spaces and having everything in its place, you would think that I have lots of self control when it comes to shopping for things like beauty products. However, I am the most impulsive shopper EVER. This is why I’m constantly doing mini decluttering sessions where I go through everything I’ve accumulated and purge what I don’t use.

Curating the perfect beauty stash

As you may remember from my 2018 Intentions post, I mentioned how this year I want to buy less and appreciate what I have more. My goal for my beauty stash is to have products that I genuinely love and use on a regular basis. Danielle over at TheStyleAndBeautyDoctor.com posted about curating her beauty stash and that flipped a switch in my brain to do the same.

I love products that look good on my skin and on my vanity; it’s why I gravitate more toward luxury brands. Somehow, I still end up with one-offs from the drugstore (some products are amazing and others, not so much). I also receive products as PR samples that are sometimes from random brands that I’ve never heard of that just end up sitting, untouched.

New Month, New Me

Hi, guys! Welcome back to my blog. I know I’ve been gone for a minute (a month to be exact) but I’m back and I feel refreshed and ready to kick things off. After sharing my intentions for 2018, I took a step back and took some time to think about the actions I would take to achieve my goals. My list of intentions was pretty long but it was filled with realistic aspirations. I now have a clear idea on how to move forward and I can’t wait to share my journey and results with you.

February is my official start of improving how I’m living and I’m kicking things off with a no-buy for this entire month. One of my goals was to spend less and appreciate what I already have. More on this coming soon.

I took a brief trip to Colorado at the beginning of January where I was able to chill out for a minute. But since then, things have been a little crazy at work, so I’ve been using my weekends to catch up on rest and binge watching my fave shows: grownish, blackish, and Bob’s Burgers.

Setting My 2018 Intentions

Happy New Year! This year literally flew by! It’s New Year’s Day and I’m so excited for 2018. 2017 wasn’t at all what I expected it to be and as I sit and reflect on this past year, I’ve realized that I could have done so much more. Instead of dwelling, I’ve made a resolution to create the life I want in 2018 and I could not be more excited for what’s to come. I’m a true believer of creating my own destiny and future through faith, prayer, and dedication.

A quick recap of 2017:

Burberry Beauty Eye Color Cream in Gold Copper No.100

When Burberry Beauty first came out, and everyone raved about Pale Barley eyeshadow, I popped everything on my wishlist. But being a brown girl, I was hesitant to buy anything from the brand for fear of it not working with my skin tone, like many other luxury makeup. The packaging alone made it very difficult to deny myself at least a trial with Burberry Beauty. As you saw in my NET-A-PORTER haul, I picked up two things from the brand: a single cream eyeshadow and a set containing some of their best sellers.

When I looked at the cream shadows, I decided to stay true to my style of everyday neutral eye looks. I went with the Burberry Beauty Eye Color Cream in Gold Copper No.100, $30.

My Favorite Nude Nail Polish Picks for Brown Skin

Nude Nail Polish
When it comes to my nails, I am a true minimalist. I just love the clean & polished look of nude nail polish shades. Every once in a while I’ll go bold with a red or dark berry for fall. However, 99% of the time, I like to stick to my fave color family: nudes. You’ll notice that all of the nude polishes below have a hint of pink in them. True nudes usually don’t look good with my brown skin tone, so I prefer blush nudes. Sometimes I go sheer and other times I like something more creamy and opaque. Take a peek at my favorites below.

Anthropologie’s Beauty Section is Goals

French-Girl-Organics-Indie-LeeOn Fridays after work, I like to treat myself by going shopping. I’ve been trying to be better about buying new clothes because I’m known to wear the same few pieces, once I find my faves. I’ve also been creating lots of beauty content for the blog and my instagram, so I’ve been making an effort to try lots of new products.

I like to have a list of particular things I want to buy each week, this way I don’t go to crazy on Treat Yo Self Friday. This week, my goal was to find new jeans, photo props, and new beauty products. I tried on some jeans at Free People but they didn’t work out. Not ready to give up yet, I went over to Anthropologie on Fifth ave.

Shop The Post

Anthropologie have really pretty home decor and surprisingly, lots of beauty products. Most of the beauty products at Anthropologie are by clean/natural brands, which I’ve been wanting to get into. As I browsed the beauty section, a sales associate gave me a coupon for 15% off one full-priced beauty item.

I ended up purchasing the Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser, which has been on my list for a while, and the French Girl Organics Lip Polish. I also picked up a copper wire basket from the home decor section.

Anthropologie carries even more beauty and wellness products online. I’ve already added a bunch of items to my wishlist – you can view some of them below. Stay tuned to read my thoughts on the products purchased in this mini beauty haul. In the meantime, read my beauty reviews here.

Get to Know Me: The Girl Behind The Blog

Hi there! I know that I’ve been getting a lot of new visitors to my blog, so I wanted to introduce myself for anyone that doesn’t know me. I hope you’ve been liking all of the new content here on theluxeminimalist.com. Please let me know what you want to see more of here. In the meantime, be sure to follow TLM on bloglovin‘ or via the newsletter to join our growing fam.

For today’s post, I’m sharing a few tidbits about myself and my life for anyone that’s new or just curious about the girl behind the blog. If you want to know anything more about me, feel free to follow me on twitter and instagram – my insta-stories are like mini vlogs of my life.

Name?
Coreyiel [Corey – yell]; Corey, for short.

Where are you from and where do you currently live?
I’m originally from New Orleans but I’ve been living in New York for two years. New York is definitely much different from living in New Orleans. I miss it a lot but I had to move to New York for the vast amount of job opportunities in beauty/fashion.

What do you do for a living?
I am currently working in Public Relations for a popular makeup brand.

What is your dream career?
My dream career is to work for myself as an entrepreneur, still in the beauty and lifestyle industry. I’d love the freedom to work for myself, creating beautiful products that other girls like me could use.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
New York has always been my dream city to live in. On my list, after New York, is Los Angeles. All I know about LA is what I see on tv but if it’s as clean, healthy, and beautifully sunny as I perceive it to be, I think I’d love to live there.

What is your zodiac sign?
I am a true gemini. I have mood swings, though I try to keep them in check. I am self-aware, always analyzing the way I do everything. I can be indecisive. I can be a social butterfly and awkward at the same time.

Favorite color?
It depends on the thing but I love black, white, and gray. I also love soft colors like powdery pinks and blues.

Favorite thing(s) to do?
My favorite things to do are explore NYC, take pictures, find new restaurants and coffee shops, organizing my space, and writing about beauty.

Coffee or Wine?
BOTH.

Favorite Movie?
It was The Devil Wears Prada but now I’d say it’s any of The Avengers movies.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
I only have 1 dimple; it’s in my right cheek and I love it.

If you could give someone advice about anything, what would you tell them?
You can do and be anything that you want! I know it’s cliché but it’s so true and once you start believing this, you’ll see the universe move in ways that favor how you want to live your life.

If you have any other questions that are not answered here, leave them below and I will get back to you asap! Feel free to answer these tag questions on your blog and leave your links below. xx, Corey
