Dior Makeup recently launched BACKSTAGE, a more moderately priced makeup line for pros and makeup enthusiasts alike. Peter Phillips, the creative and image director for Dior, described the backstage line as “efficient products that provide a professional result but are simple to apply.”
The star product from Dior BACKSTAGE is the Face & Body Foundation, which is available in an impressive 40 shades. Unlike a lot of other brands that are launching more “inclusive” foundation ranges, Dior has come out with a full spectrum of shades that will work for the fairest of skin to even the most melanin-rich complexions.
When I heard that Dior was launching a matte, natural-looking foundation AND it would be easy to find a shade match, I immediately added it to my wishlist. I went into Sephora one weekend to find my match and it was more difficult than I thought it would be. There were so many close matches but I finally decided on 4.5 Warm.
Price: I loved that the price ($40/50mL) is more affordable than the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($39/29mL) and Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation ($34/32mL).
Packaging: Before I jump into the formula, I have to give a quick shout out to the packaging. I love the matte bottle with silver logo and top. It’s simple and to the point. It is less luxurious than other Dior makeup but I think the BACKSTAGE line is more about function than the look. Also, I love that the bottle corresponds to the actual shade inside.
Performance: This foundation is described on Sephora.com as “A foundation for the face and body in 40 shades with a natural, matte finish and medium, build-able coverage that’s waterproof and sweat-resistant.” I can honestly say that I’ve put this foundation to the test while working an event in the hot summer sun and it stayed all day long. Although it’s a matte finish, it isn’t dull and flat like some others I’ve tried. The coverage is very lightweight and natural, and it actually looks better as the day goes on.
The Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is perfect for those with normal-to-oily skin who prefer a natural look. If you want to try this foundation and you have dry skin, I suggest using a moisturizing makeup primer or light facial oil before applying this.
What are your thoughts on Dior’s newest line? Are there any other products in the range that you’re loving?
