I Tried Every Product From the Ami Cole Launch – Here’s What I Thought
I haven’t been excited about a new brand launch in a while but over the last few months, there have been a couple that has piqued my interest, Ami Cole being at the top of the list. Ami Cole is a new clean, vegan, and cruelty-free makeup brand made by and for people with deeper skin tones. I was immediately interested in trying this brand once I saw the branding and marketing on social media. Once it launched and I saw how affordable everything was, I immediately ordered The Crew, which is a bundle of three of their products from the initial launch packaged in a cute clear pouch with their logo printed on one side and embossed on the other.
Before we get into my thoughts on each product, I have to pull over for a second to mention how good the packaging is. I love the sleek and minimal black and white packaging that the products are in. I also love the bright orange boxes everything came in. Something about the black, white, and orange just screams “black luxury” and I love every bit of it.
Ok, now for my review of the Ami Cole launch…
Ami Cole Lip Treatment Oil Review
This Lip Treatment Oil is $20 and feels more like a gloss than oil, which gives a sheer wash of color. It’s made with nourishing ingredients like Baobab Seed Oil, Camellia Oil, and Passion Fruit Seed Oil and gives a high shine that leaves the lips feeling moisturized and hydrated. It comes in a deep rose color that has a very sheer brown tint, which I really like. I do like the skincare benefits that you get from this treatment oil but I do prefer balms for nourishing my lips rather than a gloss. That said, if you want a hybrid makeup lip product with skincare benefits, then you might like this.
Ami Cole Skin-Enhancing Tint Review
After viewing each shade on the models on their site, I chose Deep 2 which is described as being for deep skin with golden or yellow undertones, however, I realized that this shade was deeper than my skin tone and I should have gone with Medium 1 for medium skin with neutral or golden undertones. The good thing about skin tints is that you can usually get away with 1 shade darker than your actual skin tone since it’s not a highly pigmented product.
Luckily, since I bought it in the summer, I’ve been able to get away with it by using my concealer to brighten up the center of my face. I also think that since Deep 2 is a bit darker than my skin tone, it gives me more coverage than the average skin tint would give.
Even though I chose the wrong shade, that did not stop the Skin-Enhancing Tint from becoming my go-to product. As I mentioned before, I love the coverage it gives and how natural it looks on my skin. My combo-oily skin tends to be more oily in the warmer months, but since I usually set this tint with a light powder, I haven’t run into any problems in that area.
I like to apply this with my fingers for a seamless and natural look. The tube of product is small but you only need a little to even out your skin tone and get that healthy glow. This is obviously a new favorite and what I will be wearing for days when I want a light makeup look. It’s the perfect everyday complexion product, so I’ve been loving it for working from home and I will be ordering my correct shade once this one runs out.
Ami Cole Light-Catching Highlighter Review
This translucent highlighter balm is supposed to allow you to add shine wherever you want it for a light-catching glow. Unfortunately, since my skin leans more combo-oily already, this was my least favorite of the 3 products I tried. I probably would like this more in the winter months when I want a more glowy look. I may try it as a topper over eyeshadow for a nighttime look, whenever I go out. I’ll also experiment with it on the body on the decolletage and let you know how that works.
If you tend to have skin that’s on the dry side and you’ve tried this, let us know how you liked it in the comments. When I swatch it on my hand, it gives you a translucent shimmer with tiny specs of gold. It’s really pretty and would probably look amazing on those who love that dewy look.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, my favorite of the 3 products is definitely the Skin-Enhancing Tint but I did love the clean and minimal vibe of all 3. Overall, I’m loving the simple but bold branding and the idea of skin-enhancing makeup and I can’t wait to see what Ami Cole comes out with next. If you’ve tried any of these products, let me know how you like them in the comments.
