This is going to be a super quick review of the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm. I ordered this product as soon as it launched from the Summer Fridays website. They’re marketing gets me every time.
The Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm claims to “hydrate and soothe parched lips while sealing in moisture for lusher-than-life lips on demand day or night.” For $22, you get 0.5oz/15g of product in the brand’s signature aluminum tube. Compared to the beloved Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (0.7oz/20g for $20), the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm is a bit more expensive although, only by a couple of dollars.
Key Ingredients:
- Shea and Murumuru Seed Butters: Naturally moisturizing and conditioning butters to heal dry skin.
- Vegan Waxes: A blend of vegan waxes that claims “to soften and boost shine all day with a smooth, never-greasy texture.”
- Natural Vanilla Flavor: For a sweet but subtle scent.

What I Loved
The texture and smell immediately won me over, just like I knew they would. This Lip Butter Balm is the perfect combination of the name, a butter and a balm. It slips and slides across the lips in the best way possible but still manages to stay on long enough to leave your lips feeling moisturized hours after application. The “Natural Vanilla” is so good and I need every lip product I own to smell like this one. The instructions say that you can use this overnight or throughout the day and I love using it both way.
What I Didn’t Love
The one thing that I didn’t love is the aluminum tube packaging. Yes, it’s on-brand and sleek looking but if the product comes in a tube, then I expect it to be able to be applied directly to the lips. Granted, you could apply it from the tube to the lips but the small circular opening makes it a little awkward and uncomfortable. I also found that I would often squeeze too much from the tube and end up wasting the product.
4 Month Update – September 2020
It’s now been 4 months since I purchased the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm and packaging has become more than a problem of convenience. The aluminum tube the balm is packaged in has crinkled more with regular use (3-4 times a week) which has created a small hole at the top. Now, every time I go to apply the product, a little of it also squeezes out of the hole, causing me to lose a bit of product with each use. For this reason, I’ve updated my rating to a 4 out of 5. I still love how this feels on my lips but this design flaw is unfortunate and I don’t think I will repurchase unless this was fixed.
