My Thoughts On Blogging & Social Media in 2018
You may not know this about me but I’ve been blogging since college. I started my first blog “Studded Bows” after discovering other beauty blogs and wanting a way to express my fashion & beauty style. I started posting about my favorite products, what I was wearing, and what I was up to.
As the blogging world got bigger, I decided to rebrand and that’s how “The Luxe Minimalist” was born. With a better name and a brand new blog theme, I was ready to delve deeper into the world of blogging. Blogging has always been something I’ve done as a hobby and something that’s so personal that I’ve kept to myself. I never really promoted my blog, which is partly why it hasn’t grown in readership by much.
Another reason I started my blog is because I admired the blogging community and wanted to find like-minded people who were obsessed with beauty and minimalistic style. Which leads me to blogging in 2018…
With Instagram now more popular than ever and a very big part of blogging, every interaction within the blogging/beauty community seems to be more about gaining followers than making a connection. I really appreciate those few who have remained authentic and genuinely interested in this community.
While I do love some of the new content, I missed the days of favorites, unbiased reviews, Bath & Body Works hauls, commenting and starting a dialogue about a beauty product or fashion look. I’ve let the pressure of gaining new Instagram followers stop me from creating the type of content I love but I’m back to doing what I love. Hopefully, I find my tribe of people who are interested in what I put out. But even if I don’t, I’m only posting things I’m truly proud of.
