Girl gang, clique, squad, tribe, no matter what you call it, we all need that group of people that we can lean on in times of need. Look at Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji, Beyoncé, Solange, and Kelly, or Rihanna and Melissa Forde. These ladies have each other’s backs and are all winning together.
There’s a saying, “Your vibe attracts your tribe.” and I couldn’t agree more. Having people who are on the same wavelength as you is so beneficial to your progression in your career and life, in general. You need to keep people around you that will uplift you when you’re down, celebrate your wins, and advise you when you’re at a crossroad. And you need to be the same for them.
Finding Your Tribe
Your tribe can consist of whoever it is that you share a positive connection with. That could be a co-worker turned friend like Issa and Yvonne, a sibling like Beyoncé and Solange, or a childhood friend like Rihanna and Melissa. It doesn’t matter the relation as long as these people bring out the best in you.
Types of People To Have in Your Tribe
There are certain types of people you’ll want to have in your tribe. Some people may have a few of these attributes and that’s great but you need to make sure you have at least one of each to ensure that you have a well-rounded group. Just be sure that you are also the friend to them that you want them to be to you.
The Creative One
Everyone needs someone that they can bounce ideas off of. You should be able to talk about your ideas, goals, and future business plans with that person and leave feeling more inspired than ever. There’s nothing like leaving a productive meeting with a friend and feeling like you can take over the world.
The Fun One
Ideally, you’ll be able to have fun with everyone in your circle, but there has to be at least one person you can cut up with. Remember, your tribe should spark positivity and nothing is more positive than letting your hair down and enjoying life. Things can get pretty hectic in life, so you’ll want someone that you pop open a bottle of wine with and have a good laugh.
The Positive/Spiritual One
This is the person that you can pray with or just speak positivity into your life when you’re going through a hardship. They know what to say to help you see the silver lining and will be there when the going gets tough.
The Dependable One
Everyone needs at least one person that they can count on when they’re in a pinch. This person always answers calls/texts, shows up to every event, and is happy to do you a favor should you need it.
The Honest One
Not everything you do will be right and not every idea you have will be good, so you need someone who will give you their honest opinion. There are some people called “Yes Men/Women” that will agree with you on everything, whether it’s right or wrong. Those people do not have your best interest in mind. Make sure you have someone who is honest and that you’re open to hearing the truth from them.
The Nonjudgemental One
We all make not so smart decisions from time to time. For those time, we need that person that we can tell anything to and not feel the sting of their judgments. This is a person you can trust with your innermost secrets.
So, now that you’ve read who I think you should have in your crew, how is your group looking?
