Summer is here, well at least it is in Louisiana, so I’ve been enjoying spending time outside in our backyard, getting some Vitamin D. Temperatures can get really hot here, so I’m so grateful to have easy access to a pool when I need to cool off. This has often been the case lately, so I think I’ve mastered the ultimate bag of poolside essentials for the perfect summer day. Keep reading to find out what I always have with me for my pool days at home.

Sunscreen
The number one poolside essential is sunscreen. It’s a non-negotiable for me and anyone else who wants to protect their skin from UVA/UVB rays. I’ve been loving Aveeno® Positively Mineral®, which is a mineral sunscreen with an spf of 50, made with naturally-sourced 100% zinc oxide active ingredient. It’s paraben-free, phthalate-free and fragrance-free, and is suitable for those with sensitive skin. I especially love it for pool days because it’s sweat-resistant and water-resistant for up to 80 minutes so I can enjoy my relaxation time in the water.
If you’ve been looking for a good sunscreen, now is the perfect time to try to Aveeno® Positively Mineral® Sunscreen, as there’s a great offer to earn a $5 reward of your choice when you buy $15 or more on participating Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Company Brands. Iced Water
I’m already big on drinking lots of water to stay hydrated, but I step it up even more when I’m outside in the sun. Swimming is great exercise and can be really draining, so I make sure to replenish and hydrate my body while enjoying a soak. If you have a hard time drinking water, add your favorite fruit to add some flavor and make it pretty. I love adding lemon and cucumber to mine for an even more refreshing taste.

Allergy Medicine
Another thing to protect yourself from, while enjoying time outside, is allergens. Nothing ruins a good pool day like allergy symptoms. So I keep a dose of Benadryl® Allergy UltraTab® Tablets with me whenever I know I’m heading outside for some fun. They work to clear up sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, and other common allergy symptoms to keep the fun going. Get effective relief from your allergies with BENADRYL® Allergy ULTRATAB® Tablets – antihistamine relief in a small tablet that works when you need it most. This also counts towards the $5 Visa Rewards Card when you buy $15 (excluding tax) of participating products between 5/27/20 and 7/31/20. Sunglasses
Not only do I need sunglasses to keep me looking stylish while I lounge by the pool (lol), but they also obviously help to protect my eyes from too much sun. I know I talk about protecting yourself from the sun a lot in this post and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the sun, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. To keep my relationship with that big ball of energy copacetic, I take a few precautions. In addition to keeping my eyes protected and me looking cool, wearing sunglasses also helps me with one of my favorite past times while lounging by the pool…

Reading Material
There is something so special about getting lost in the pages of a good book while lounging next to the pool. Sometimes I bring out a magazine with me, but for the most part, I like to crack open a fiction book and be transported to another world for a few hours. My favorite types of stories are the ones about clever teenage wizards and fashionable hot messes trying to navigate adulthood.
Sometimes, I’ll pack more items for my trip to the backyard, like a sun hat or a snack for example. These are my must-haves for when I’m in the mood to swim or just lounge by the pool for the day. Let me know what you bring to the pool with you in the comments below. Will you be trying out any of these? If so, which one(s)?
