It’s been a minute since I last shared a beauty empties post. Last year, I held on to most of the products I used up, and today, I’m going to be sharing them with you, along with my thoughts on each and whether I would repurchase them. I’ll also link to my favorites below.
quarantine beauty empties 2020
Skincare
Last year, I tried a lot of new skincare products. Although I’m still testing some of those products, I managed to finish a few. I discovered aesthetician Shani Darden’s skincare brand and fell in love with her Sake Toning Essence, $52. This 2-in-1 product helps hydrate the skin and improve the look of pores. I definitely would buy it again. I talk about it more here and here.
I also finished the Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser, $38 and really enjoyed this gentle and refreshing cleanser. Although I wish the texture created more foam as it lathered, I would buy this again to use as a morning cleanser. (Full review here.)
Another product I was sad to use up was Tatcha The Water Cream, $68. This gel cream is like an instant drink of water for your skin. I love how it absorbs quickly but I dislike how quickly I went through this compared to my other moisturizers. It’s like my skin literally drank this stuff up. For that reason, I don’t know if I’d repurchase.
I received the Stratia Liquid Gold moisturizer, $27 to test out and while it was a nice, lightweight cream, I had other ones I liked better. I also had to toss the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Eye Cream, $45 as it was well past its time. The brand has recently reformulated its Youth Preserve line. I may repurchase this down the line for a simple moisturizing eye cream. (Review here)
Another one that was way past its expiration date is the Clinique Take Off the Day Balm, $31. I managed to use 99% of this up as it’s an OG favorite. I finally decided to get rid of the jar and the last little product in it. I will go back to this again once I use up some mini cleansing balms I have open. (Review here)
I also “used up” a gentle Clarisonic brush head. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get my hands on this one as the company went out of business but I will try.
Bath & Body
I didn’t quite use up all of the Soap & Glory Hand Food, $8 but I’ve had it for too long, so it had to go. I also used up Clean On Me, $10, one of my favorite body washes, and Dr. Teal’s Pink Himalayan Body Wash, $5. I would repurchase the Soap & Glory body wash as it’s moisturizing, smells amazing, and is inexpensive. I didn’t feel like it did anything for my skin, so I wouldn’t repurchase Dr. Teal’s body wash. Neither would I buy the S&G hand cream as I have a few others on my list that I want to try.
Makeup
Makeup always has the least amount of products in my empties because it takes so long to use it up. I was pleasantly surprised when I finished the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Perfector and Ultra HD Concealer, $28. Both are great products, however, the concealer has been reformulated and looks like the Perfector has been discontinued. I’m not in a rush to try a new concealer since I have one that I love (more on this in an upcoming post) so I will not be repurchasing these.
Hair
Hair is always the category with the most empties. I wash and style my hair weekly and since these 4c coils require a lot of attention, I go through a lot go products. I used up the TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask, $18 (already have a backup), Honey Curls Custard, $15 (loved and would repurchase), and 2 of the African Pride Pre-Shampoo Treatments (hard to find but love and would repurchase). I also used up some hair masks including Carol’s Daughter Coco Creme Deep Moisture Mask, $12, TPH by Taraji After Dark Overnight Mask, $15, and the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey Masque, $11. The only one I’d try again is the Shea Moisture but I won’t be repurchasing the others as my hair needs something more intense. Lastly, I finished The Mane Choice Tropical Moringa Shampoo and Conditioner which were nice and I’d use it again. I’d also repurchase the Aussie The Moist Conditioner which I use as a budget-friendly pre-shampoo detangler and co-wash.
Those are all of my beauty empties. I’m working on finishing up some more products, so I will be back in a month or two with another update.
