I’m so proud of black YouTubers like Jackie Aina and Shayla for collaborating with major beauty brands. Not many influencers of color get those types of opportunities so whenever they do, I like to support and buy something from their collection. I never review the Jackie Aina collab with Artist Couture but I did buy both of her highlighters and the makeup bag. Let me know if you’d like to see me review the collection but today I wanted to share my thoughts on the first Shayla x Colourpop collection.
From the collection, I purchased the Perception Palette, both highlighters, Quickie Lipstick and Neat Freak Gloss.
Shayla x ColourPop Cosmetics Perception Palette Swatched
As stated in the title of this post, the Shayla x ColourPop Cosmetics Perception palette is the only “fun” aka bold eyeshadow palette that I own. I’ve mentioned time and time again on here and on instagram that I love neutrals, golds, coppers and bronze shadows, so this is a big change for me. I think this palette is the perfect mix of everyday shades and pops of color for when you want to take your look a little further. It has my staples like Diva, TF, Culture, & Strut N’ Slay, as well as a few wild cards like 14, Sassy and September, making this the perfect palette to travel with. This palette also gets a thumbs up for including a full sized mirror, which ColourPop hadn’t done with it’s previous palettes.
The shades are really pigments and I love the mix of mattes and shimmers. I REALLY want to do an eye look with the vibrant cobalt blue named “14”. The matte shades weren’t that velvety smooth like the shimmers when I swatched them but I think that’s typical for matte shades. I’m actually really excited to use the last row of shades this Fall!
Quickie Lipstick, Boomin’ & Pose Highlighters Swatched
I also picked up both of the Luster Dust Loose Highlighters in the collection named “Boomin’” and “Pose” and I love them both. Boomin’ is a peach toned gold tone and Pose is a warm copper. I usually go for warmer highlighters around this transitional time of year so I’m currently living for Pose but I was all about Boomin’ this summer. These loose highlighters are so finely milled but so highly pigmented. These are the type of highlighter I reach for when I’m dressed up with some place to go.
The Shayla x Colourpop collection also included 3 lipsticks in Quickie (peachy nude), OOUUUU! (warm peach), and C’mon Sis (soft pinky brown) and a lipgloss in Neat Freak (Peachy champagne with pink & gold glitter). I picked up Quickie and Neat Freak from the lip collection but I think I may need C’mon Sis. As a mentioned above, Quickie is a peachy nude and we all know that I prefer a brown-toned nude. I think I can make this work with a nude liner underneath so I’m still going to give this a try. As for Neat Freak, I love this gloss. I’d been wanting to try a lip topper for a while, so I was happy when this sheer, glittery gloss came out. This can be worn alone or overtop a different shade to glam up your lips.
Overall, I think Shayla and ColourPop Cosmetics did a beautiful job for their first collab. It’s all reasonably priced and the products are all high-quality and come in wearable shades for a wide range of skin tones. Shayla and ColourPop also just recently released a second collaboration that features all lip products and a makeup bag to store everything in. You can view that collection here.
What influencer and brand collab do you want to see in the future?
