Once in a while, life goes into overdrive and we need to take a step aside and evaluate ourselves. I’m not a life coach, but I have dealt with the craziness of being a full-time student, working full-time and now, blogging and interning. With all of that, it’s hard to find a balance and squeeze in time for the things that matter; like having fun! That’s why I’m here to give my tips on how to cleanse your mind, body and your overall life. Read on to find out how to detoxify your mind of negative thoughts, your life of negative people and situations, and your home of unnecessary clutter.
1. Declutter
My first tip for detoxifying your life is to get rid of any clutter. Start with your makeup/skincare products. Rearrange your bathroom cabinets and makeup drawers so that all like products are together. For example, designate a shelf for all face cleansers and moisturizers. Designate a makeup drawer for all lip products. Once you organize your products, you can see just how much of one type of one thing you own and how much you really don’t need. Now it’s time to minimize.
Read the expiration dates and toss the expired products out. Next, sort the remaining products into two piles. Place the products you love in one pile and the ones you could do without in another. Give the latter away to family/friends. The point of this detoxijfication is to rid your life of excess. It’s when we have too much stuff, that we become anxious. Give what you don’t need/use away and then try not to repurchase any like product until you’ve finished (or are close to finishing) the one you own.
This can be done with any part of your home: kitchen, bedroom, closet or even your home office. Once you have a clean space, you’d be amazed at how easily everything falls into place
2. De-stress
Is there anyone or anything that stresses you out or make you feel down when they’re around? Try to spend less time around them. If the person or situation is unavoidable, try to address the problem and resolve it. A weight will be lifted once you acknowledge the issue.
3. Decompress
You should also take a personal day to relax and just chill. Watch movies, read a book or magazine, take a walk, sleep.. So whatever it is that makes you feel at peace.
Try meditating right after waking up and before going to sleep. Give your mind 5-10 minutes of silence or reflection. Take deep breaths and clear your mind of the worries of the day. This is a great way to start your day on a calm and positive note.
Now it’s time to focus on the body. When you put too many bad foods into your body, you start to feel weighed down and it has a negative effect on your mood. It can cause you to feel grumpy and drained when you wake and it may prevent you from getting a good nights sleep. If you begin to feel like this, take 3-5 days to reboot and get back on track.
Try to up your fruit and veggie intake. Homemade smoothies are a great option if, like me, you find it hard to get your daily fruit and veggies.
Detox waters also help with ridding your body of toxins. (Search “detox water” on Pinterest.)
Adding a quick 30 minute workout to your routine will help you start your day in a positive mood (thanks endorphins!) and give you a boost of energy.
I’m not a fitness and health expert so I’ll just leave my health and fitness Pinterest boards here and here.
Those are all of my life cleansing tips. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life, give these a try. Be sure to let me know if do. I’d love to hear about your cleansing process.
